Maureta Fugate (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Maureta was born on November 24, 1926, in Greencastle, Missouri to Walter Ray McKinley Darr and Lotta Day Custer-Darr. She passed away on February 13, 2025, in Buffalo, Missouri. She was the second of three sisters. The family later moved to a rural property between Springfield and Ozark, Missouri. Maureta graduated from Ozark High School in 1944. After graduation she attended some college and worked as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed travel including a visit to pre-Castro Havana, Cuba.
Maureta was united in marriage with Amadee Fugate at Grace Methodist, Springfield, Missouri in May 1961. To this union were born two children, Ann and Don.
Maureta was preceded in death by: Husband of thirty years Amadee Fugate, Sisters Lorene Morton, Ohio and Sue Forrest, Oklahoma. She is survived by: Daughter Ann and Doug Brethower, Bolivar, Missouri. Grandchildren Ashley Pomeroy, Nixa, Madisen and Clay Crouch Jefferson City, Nate Brethower, Buffalo. Son Don, Ozark, Missouri Grandchildren John Fugate, Nashville, Tennessee and Quinn and Alyson Fugate, West Linn, Oregon. Great grandchildren Jackson and Hudson Pomeroy Nixa, Missouri. Beyond immediate family, “aunt Me” will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews who enjoyed their visits to the Fugate household in Urbana.
Following marriage, Maureta was a life-long resident of Urbana, MO until a short stay at Colonial Springs, Buffalo before passing. She regularly attended Urbana UMC and later Prairie Chapel.
Maureta was known and loved by many in the Urbana community. The family thanks the many kind neighbors and good folks of Urbana for their care and support that allowed her to live in her Urbana home as long as possible.
Services are scheduled for Friday, April 18, at 11 am at Cantlon-Otterness in Urbana, Missouri. Visitation begins at 10 am. Final interment at Bowers Chapel Cemetery immediately following services.
Donations in her name may be made to Prairie Chapel or Bowers Chapel.
