Max H. Griffin (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Max Howard Griffin, son of Ross Howard and Beulah Gladys McClanahan Griffin, was born May 7, 1941, in Lebanon, Missouri. He passed from this world Thursday, June 23, 2022, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, one month, and sixteen days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Megetta Pandora Jones.
Max is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; a son, Marty Griffin, and his wife, Rosalie, of Neosho, Missouri; two step-daughters, Becky Blackwell, and Cherie McGinnis, both of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, Rex Griffin, and his wife, Jolene, and Paul Griffin, and his wife, Katie, all of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised on the family farm near Lebanon, in Laclede County, and graduated from Lebanon High School. He found his calling as a truck driver and became an independent owner and operator. He traveled all over, but always considered Lebanon as his home base. After twenty years, he returned to the farm, shortly before his father’s passing, and helped his brothers while his nieces and nephews finished school. Max returned to trucking after another twenty years, and could land a boat on a lake in Idaho within fifteen minutes of schedule.
Max professed his faith in Christ early in his life and was raised in White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was a historian of Laclede county families, and could name the owners of most home places back to the original owner. He was an insatiable reader of fiction and non-fiction, particularly biographies, and liked doing puzzles. He took great interest in his family and friends, and was always willing to help where he was needed.
Max was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and was a hard working farmer and trucker. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made with them during his eighty-one years.
A memorial has been established to White Oak Pond cemetery and donations may be made through the funeral home.
