Maxine McMillan (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Maxine McMillan, daughter of George L. and Gladys Clark Prosser, was born September 29, 1925, near Phillipsburg, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, August 25, 2016, in her home, near Phillipsburg, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, ten months, and twenty-six days.
On October 6, 1944, she was united in marriage to James Ray “Bob” McMillan, and to this union one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Bob, on July 8, 2010.
Maxine is survived by her son, Gary McMillan, and his wife, Shirley, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; two granddaughters, Julie Caffey, and her husband, Gary, of Phillipsburg, Missouri, and Jana Harrill, and her husband, Kerry, of Lebanon, Missouri; four step-grandchildren, Brian, Aaron, and Joe Doss, and Stacie Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Cole and Brooke Harrill; nine step-great-grandchildren; a number of cousins; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was born and raised in the Phillipsburg community, and graduated from Phillipsburg High School. After she and Bob were married, they made their home in the Phillipsburg area and lovingly raised their son. Maxine was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and also worked as secretary to the president of Commerce Bank in Lebanon for a number of years. During her years at Commerce Bank she had worked with Charles Hughes and James McClure, both of which were well known bankers in Lebanon.
Maxine was raised in the Phillipsburg United Methodist Church where she had been a member for over eighty years. She had a very strong Methodist faith, was active in all phases of church work and also was a pianist in the church.
She was active with the American Cancer Society, the 4-H Clubs, and the Lebanon Business and Professional Women’s Club for several years. She had been a home room mother to her granddaughters when they were in Elementary School. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself and her granddaughters. She loved her family dearly and centered her life around her son and grandchildren. She was a lady with steadfast convictions and was unchanging in her opinions. She was extremely thoughtful and was known for sending cards to her family and friends on their special days. She also enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and caring for her home.
Maxine was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety years.
Memorial donations to Phillipsburg United Methodist Church or Lonesome Hill Cemetery may be made through the funeral home.
