Melvin Ernest Green (Urbana)'s Obituary
Melvin Ernest Green, son of the late Ernest and Nellie (Mathews) Green, was born on August 26, 1942 in Urbana, MO. He passed peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on July 22, 2022. At the time of his passing he was 79 years, 10 months, and 25 days of age.
Melvin was raised in Urbana, Missouri and graduated from Skyline High School in 1960. He attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Ramona Diane Myers on May 27, 1962, and to this union four daughters where born. They lived in Kansas City, where he worked at Western Electric. Two girls were born while in Kansas City, Tammie Lynn and Shelly Ann. They moved back to the farm to do what he loved. Here, two more girls were born, Stephanie Renee and Ambrea Donn. He took his family to church at Olive Point Baptist Church, where he also went as a child. Melvin was a Decon, Sunday School Teacher, and Song Leader. He served God faithfully.
Melvin milked and raised cattle for several years. He started building cabinets as something he enjoyed, which later became his profession. When there was down time, Melvin was quick to get to the golf course, he loved playing golf. He enjoyed supports the local community, which included patronage to sporting events and serving on the Skyline School Board. Melvin was known for his generosity to friends, family, church, and community members. He will be missed by many.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one daughter; and five grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Diane; his children, Tammie (Sam) Dryer of Tunas, MO, Shelly (Deryl) Osborn of Macks Creek, MO, and Stephanie (Brian) Pitts of Battlefield, MO; three sisters; one brother; his grandchildren, Nathan (Shannon) Dryer, Brent (Jamie) Davis, Lindsey (Justin) Blecker, Danai (Dakota) Yates, Jordan Pitts, and Brianna Pitts; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in the Olive Point Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Gentry, Jr. and Bro. Sam Dryer officiating. Escorts will be Sam Dryer, Deryl Osborn, Brian Pitts, Raymond Green, Ralph Rodriguez, and Greg Lindsay. Interment will be in the Bower Chapel Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Urbana. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bower Chapel Cemetery Fund.
