Michael "Barney" Barnett (Camdenton)'s Obituary
Michael Edward “Barney” Barnett, 73, passed away unexpectedly on February 11, 2026, in Camdenton, Missouri. Born on January 20, 1953, in Washington, Missouri, Michael lived a life marked by fishing, Cardinal baseball, a passion for people and an unwavering love for storytelling.
After retiring, Michael fulfilled a long-held dream by moving to the Lake of the Ozarks in 2017. His mother, Ida Barnett, purchased a nearby condo soon after. Their shared journey to the lake was driven by Mike’s deep love of fishing—a pastime that brought him peace and joy throughout his life. The tranquil waters became a backdrop for many of his days spent casting and enjoying Ida’s crispy fresh fried fish.
Michael had a special fondness for his Colorado truck and his new Nitro fishing boat—symbols of freedom and adventure that reflected his spirited personality. Whether navigating winding lake roads or cruising across open water, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm.
A devoted fan of blues music, Michael found inspiration and comfort in the soulful sounds of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Southern Rock of Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker Bands. The music often echoed through his condo and accompanied him on countless drives.
Mike also loved visits to the casino and friends’ homes playing Texas Hold ‘Em - he shared bragging rights when he won but tight lipped otherwise!
Known affectionately as “Barney,” Michael was never short on stories. He had a tale for every occasion—each one delivered with bravado and an honesty that endeared him to those around him. His presence filled a room with energy and laughter, leaving lasting impressions on friends old and new.
Michael was preceded in death by his father Charles Barnett and his mother, Ida Barnett, who passed away in October 2023.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and may the stories he shared continue to echo in the hearts of all who listened. A scheduled graveside service at Country Memorial Gardens is pending followed by a celebration of life event.
Services will be coordinated by Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
