Michael A. Owen (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Michael “Mike” Allen Owen departed this life on October 7, 2024 in Springfield, MO from the injuries he sustained in a tragic farming incident. He was 75 years, 10 months old.
He was born on December 19, 1948 in Springfield, MO to Floyd “Tiny” and Mabel (Chilton) Owen. He grew up on the family farm in Elkland, MO with his parents and siblings.
Mike attended school in Marshfield, MO and graduated high school in 1967. He was united in marriage to Margaret Jane Wright on February 19, 1972 in Neosho, MO. In 1973, Mike and Jane started their family. Over the next 12 years, they welcomed 3 boys- Jeff, Jeremy and Alex. In 1972, Mike followed in his families’ footsteps by starting JA-MI acres Dairy Farm in Long Lane, MO. Mike spent most of his days running the dairy farm with Jane and the boys. On the rare occasion he wasn’t working on the farm, his sons recalled that he could be found quail hunting. After selling the dairy farm, Mike spent his retirement years being a cattle farmer, driving a truck and working at Dallas County Road department.
Mike became a grandpa “Pap” in 2000. Since then, he is now a Pap to 14 grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching the grandkids about farm life, target shooting, hunting and attending the grandkids’ sporting events.
Mike was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Conway, but had been actively attending Prairie Chapel Church in Urbana, MO.
Mike is survived by his three sons: Jeff and Monica Owen of Preston, MO; Jeremy and Staci Owen of Cross Timbers, MO and Alex and Sammi Owen of Urbana, MO. Fourteen grandchildren: Ashton and Gage, Savannah, Dawson and Maddie, Weston, Parker, Kenton, Zach, Kennedi, Gunner, Kacie, Berkli and Kade. His twin sister, Mary Moore (Gary) of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Owen; his parents, Floyd and Mabel Owen, two brothers, Clyde and Douglas Owen; and a sister, Rebecca Owen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, October 11, 2024 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets funeral home in Buffalo, MO. Interment will be in the Maple Lawn Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 10:00am-11:00am Friday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
