Michael Earl Powers (Seymour)'s Obituary
Beloved Seymour resident, Michael Earl Powers, eldest son of Kenneth and Debra Powers, departed this earthly life the afternoon of Friday, May 16, 2014, at his home in Seymour, Missouri. He was thirty-five years, eight months and twenty-six days young.
Michael was born in Mansfield, Missouri, on August 20, 1978. He always considered Seymour home, and except for time he and his family spent in Denver, all his years were spent living with his family in Seymour. He was a 1997 graduate of Fordland High School and a member of Seymour Freewill Baptist Church.
Michael’s three favorite things in life were playing Rook with family and friends, mowing and riding his lawnmower, and cutting firewood with his Dad. To the Seymour community, Michael was affectionately known as “the boy that rides the lawnmower.” He was also known for his love of metal scrapping and most of the time he didn’t have to go hunting for it; folks would drop off “junk” to his home for him to salvage. He really liked to go country dancing in Diggins on the weekends. Michael also loved raising rabbits and took great care of them and other animals on the farm.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Delores and Lawrence Powers; Ruby and Rick Knight; and Bobby Colten; his uncle, Alan Powers; and his cousin, Matthew Green.
Michael is survived by his loving and devoted parents, Kenneth and Debra (Cantrell) Powers of the home; brother, Steven Powers and Margaret Henry, of Seymour; nephew and nieces, Jacob, Marissa and Makayla Powers; aunts and uncles, Brent and Kim Easley of Springfield, Missouri; Bobby and Angie Colten of Strafford; Robert and Robin Hopper of Marshfield; Rhonda Colten of Fordland; Robby and Jessi Colten of Marshfield; Randy Powers of Seymour; Tammy and Rick Cornelison of Seymour; and Jerry and Jennifer Powers of Denver, Colorado; and many, many more cousins and extended family, friends and neighbors.
He loved his family, and his little brother meant the world to him. Michael was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger. He was tender-hearted, kind and generous. He was loyal, hard-working and determined. His years with us were short but they filled our hearts with many memories and moments that will be treasured. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother and uncle, and a gentle and curious soul who made everyone in our community a little friendlier.
In lieu of flowers the Powers Family respectfully requests memorial donations to help with Michael’s funeral services.
