Michael Redman's Obituary
Michael David Redman, son of David and Mary Romo Redman, was born August 23, 1951, in Bethalto, Illinois. He departed this life Friday, December 5, 2008, in his home, near Falcon, Missouri, at the age of fifty-seven years, three months, and thirteen days. On August 23, 2000, he was united in marriage to Kimberly Lynn Klein, and they shared the last eight years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Redman; and a sister Debbie (Redman) Young. Michael is survived by his wife, Kim, of the home; two sons, Jonathan Richardson, and James Richardson, both of the home; a daughter, Danielle Richardson, of the home; five sisters, Joan Frey, and her husband, Will, of St. Louis, Missouri, Helen Powell, and her husband, Rick, of Parker, Arizona, Patty Stanton, and her husband, Jim, of Hartford, Illinois, Laurie Piper, of East Alton, Illinois, and Sandy Scherich, and her husband, Steve, of Blue Springs, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Bethalto, Illinois, and graduated from high school there. He then volunteered for the Army and was selected for Special Forces training. He chose the medical field, upon completion of his studies, and was assigned to various Special Forces A-Teams. His deployments began with the 7th SFG with two tours in Vietnam. He served several overseas classified missions in support of humanitarian assistance from Europe, Haiti, to the Gulf War, instructing foreign nationals in emergency field medical and surgical procedures. “Red”, as he was called by his friends, retired in 1992, as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. His military decorations include: Southwest Asia Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, 3 Meritorious Medals, 5 Army Commendation Medals, Divers Badge, and the Combat Medical Badge. After retiring from the military, he continued his career in medicine as a Physician’s Assistant in the Emergency Room, at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, in August of 1986. To most in the ER, and at GLWACH, he was their family doctor. Red also lectured at Missouri State University and several state PA conferences on toxicology and selected emergency medicine topics. He authored countless articles and publications which earned him two Surgeon General PA Recognition awards. Several of his photographs are published in text in the “Atlas of Emergency Medicine”. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing on the Reel Foot River in Tennessee and making special trips with his father and brother, and then later, with his sons, nephews, and brother-in-law. He also liked taking his daughter to Father-Daughter Dances. Michael was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his patriotic spirit and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday December 11, 2008 at Soldiers Memorial Chapel at Fort Leonard Wood .Visitation will follow after the service under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
