Mildred "Millie" Melton (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Mildred Louise Melton, “Millie”, was the daughter of Claude Edward House and Lona Claudine (Turner) House. Millie was born October 13, 1938 and departed this life on May 3, 2022.
Millie grew up in Dallas and Hickory County. She was born at Wood Hill and attended many of the one room schools. She grew up in the Cherry Grove community and spent her life there, except for a brief time when she lived at Pittsburg and attended Hermitage High School. She graduated from Tunas High School. She was united in marriage to Dale L. Melton on February 29, 1956 and they were married 52 years. To this union three children were born, Mildred “Pud” Webb and companion Donnie McDaniel, Ronnie Melton and wife Patrice, and Donnie Melton and wife Teresa.
Dale and Millie built Melton’s 64-73 Jct. convenience store in 1980 and she continued to manage the store. She also had a farm and loved to be outdoors with her cows and donkeys. Millie served on the O’Bannon Bank Holding Company Board. She looked forward to Appreciation Days and visiting with all who attended.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Christina Lynn Melton; and her brother, Vernon E. House. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Paqui House of Goose Creek, South Carolina; a sister-in-law, Norma Robbins of Phoenix, AZ; three children, Mildred “Pud” Webb and companion Donnie McDaniel, Ronnie & wife Patrice Melton, and Donnie & wife Teresa Melton; ex-son-in-law, Mike Webb; and ex-daughter-in-law Debbie Mount; nine grandchildren, Amanda Walker, Mark Webb, Ronnie Dale Melton, Kevin Webb, Lindsay Barnhouse, Rebecca Nicholson, Alicia Melton, Morgan Noblitt, and Ryan Melton; 11 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Razor. She also leaves other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022 in the New Hope Baptist Church with John Long officiating. Escorts will be Matt Hale, Donald Hicks, Mike Webb, Scott Freeman, Dennis Burns, Austin Ward, Ben Reeves, and Donnie McDaniel. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Hope Upkeep Fund.
