Mildred "Nadine" Barker (Seymour)'s Obituary
Mildred Nadine Pruett Barker was born on December 23, 1928 in Dogwood, Missouri to Alvah and Violet Mae (Stafford) Pruett. She departed this life on January 9, 2017 at the age of 88 years.
She was married on February 3, 1947 to Donald Eugene Barker. They briefly lived in Coldwater, Kansas then returned to Seymour, Missouri to raise their daughters Violet and Diana. Nadine worked at Brown Shoe Company and was a cook at the elementary school for years. She was called “Grandma” by many of the children and would sneak them an extra one of her famous hot rolls every now and then.Nadine dedicated her life to God in the 1950’s at a tent revival and attended Seymour Holiness Church for many years.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her two daughters, Violet Stinnett and Diana (Ed) Bowers; two grandsons Brian (Cindy) Bowers and Steven (Patty) Stinnett; three granddaughters Tracy (Greg) Berry, Kelly Stinnett, Tara (Brian) Williams; sixteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; two brothers Bill (Edna) Pruett Aaron (Bonnie) Pruett and several nieces and nephews.
Life was not always easy for her as her own mother passed away when she was eight years old, but she was a very positive thinker, always looking at the bright side and making the best of every situation even until the end.Nadine loved going to church, reading the Bible, cooking and canning vegetables from the garden she and Don planted. In later years, she enjoyed feeding her great grandchildren Mountain Dew and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups! She calmed many an anxious granddaughter by saying “It’s good for them hun,,,it has peanut butter in it”.
Today we celebrate a life well lived and cherish the memories of her that will last forever. She will be greatly missed, but Heaven is sweeter with her there.
