Mildred R. Gabriel (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mildred Rae McDaniel Gabriel was born on August 31, 1922 to Ray B. and Julia Gove McDaniel of Linn, MO. She graduated with honors from the University of MO in 1944 and began a distinguished career as a Home Economist and teacher dedicating herself to the development of competent, honorable women. On May 2, 1948 she became the bride of Willis James Gabriel of California, MO. To this union three daughters were born – Janice Gabriel Leslie now of Williamsburg, VA, Carol Gabriel Middleton now of Lebanon, MO, and Willa Gabriel Tucker, now of Stockton, MO.
A lifelong teacher, Mrs. Gabriel guided her many girls in numerous school systems throughout Missouri and Michigan with her most notable tenure in Stockton, MO where she created the home economics department and developed an award-winning chapter of the Future Homemakers of America. Under her sponsorship the Stockton, MO FHA became influential in forming both state and national policies and it was the home to numerous officers, including the MO state president and national 1st vice-president. She was a MO FHA adviser of the year in 1967, and she advised, guided, and launched many young women toward productive lives.
Mrs. Gabriel’s most cherished accomplishments were manifested in the ideals of the homemaker with love and dedication toward her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life as a grandmother gave her continuous joy and delight and she beamed when speaking of her granddaughters, Michelle Parsons of Fair Play, MO, Samantha Cowan of Bolivar, and Stephanie and Sherri Tucker of Stockton, MO.
