Mildred Smalling's Obituary
Mildred Virginia Smalling, daughter of Charles R. and Rosa J. Fuerst Stanton, was born March 21, 1913, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, February 1, 2006, in Christian Healthcare South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, ten months, and ten days. On August 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to William Woodrow Smalling, and to this union one daughter and three sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, on October 17, 1987; a son, John Smalling; two brothers, Walter and Guy Melton; and her twin sister, Mable Melton. Mildred is survived by a daughter, Nancy Josephine Schwartz, of Springfield, Missouri; two sons, Bob Smalling, and his wife, Sharon, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Bill Smalling, and his wife, Sharon, of Springfield, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born in Missouri and was raised in Colorado, where she graduated from high school. She lived most of her life in Springfield, Missouri, where she was a devoted homemaker and a loving mother to her family. She had made her home in Lebanon for the last several years. Mildred had made her profession of faith in Christ and had attended High Street Baptist Church in Springfield. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, doing embroidery projects, and cooking. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mildred was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the memories she made for her family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2006, in the Good Springs Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
