Millard West's Obituary
Millard West, son of John Henry and Mary Matilda Webster West, was born September 3, 1904, near Stoutland, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of one hundred two years, seven months, and one day. Early in his life he was united in marriage to Ruby Selby, who preceded him in death in August of 1979. On July 18, 1981, he married Dorcas Louise Jones Copley and together they shared the last twenty-five years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Willene Disch; a great-grandson, Isaiah Disch; three brothers, Leonard, Neely, and Dola West; and a sister, Clara Murphy. Millard is survived by his wife, Dorcas, of Whitehall, Arkansas; two stepdaughters, Dianne Shoe, and her husband, Larry, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Twila Burns, and her husband, Barney, of Whitehall, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Amy Singer, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Julie Bare, of Ventura, California; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Stoutland, Missouri area and graduated from Stoutland High School. He owned and operated a farm for several years, but his major occupation was as a United States Postal worker. He had worked for the postal service in Oklahoma, Hartville, Camdenton, and Waynesville, Missouri, and then retired from Neosho, Missouri in 1967. For the last several years, he and Dorcas had made their home in the Lebanon area. Millard had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the South Highway Five Church of Christ in Lebanon. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball in his spare time. Millard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Freedom Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
