Monroe Johnston (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Monroe Johnston, 80, Pleasant Hope, passed away, Sunday, July 3, 2016 in his home under the care of Seasons Hospice (Springfield), MO with family by his side.
Born March 5, 1936 in Brighton, MO to Williams and Clara (Hembree) Johnston, he was saved and baptized at an early age at Nobile Hill Baptist Church.
After serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955- 1959, he returned to Pleasant Home to raise his family. He later retired from the Pleasant Hope School District in 1998 after 20 years of service.
Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and six brothers. Monroe is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Elvena Johnston of the home. Two daughters, Loretta Kilts and husband Jim, of Arkadelphia, AR, and Tammy Sue Johnston of Pleasant Hope; two grandsons, Jeff Strong of Fair Grove, and Chris Kilts of Cassville, MO; five granddaughters, Jennifer Drake-Parsons of Bolivar, MO, Melaine Kelly of Pleasant Hope, Stephanie McClure of Arkadelphia, AR, Tiffanie Rogers of Bismark, AR, and Tamara Gray of Hot Springs, AR. Monroe also leaves behind 18 great grandchildren; sister, Anna Mae Thomas of Raytown, MO and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Seasons Hospice.
