Mynatt Scott (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mynatt W. Scott was born December 6, 1921 in Liberal, Missouri to Roy Dennis and Goldie Gaynel Scott. Mynatt moved from Liberal to Bolivar in 1927 and lived on a farm 6 miles north of town. He graduated from Bolivar High School in 1941. He attended his freshman year of college at Southwest Baptist College before being drafted into the U.S. Army for World War II. He did his Basic Training at Camp Roberts, CA with the 54th Artillery Brigade and Officers Candidate School at Ft. Sill, OK being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. On July 4, 1945, Mynatt was transferred to Rheims, France, where he served as Administrative Officer to G3 of the Assembly Command. This assignment converted into the Western Base Section and they moved to the Hotel Majestic in Paris, France. After the War, Mynatt joined the US Army Reserves and retired from the military in 1972 as a Colonel. Mynatt returned to college on the G.I. Bill, earning a B.A. in Education from SMS in Springfield. He continued his post-graduate education and later achieved a Masters Plus 30 from the University of Missouri at Columbia. He spent most of his teaching career at Rockwood R-6 in Eureka, MO from1955 until retirement in 1983. Mynatt was principal of Eureka Elementary School until 1967 when he taught social studies, psychology and sociology at Eureka High School. He returned to Bolivar in 1983 and lived in town until moving to the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri on February 1, 2012 where he died on March 15, 2014.
Mynatt married Mary Virginia Johnson on August 19, 1948, who predeceased him on April 27, 2011. He is survived by Elizabeth Anne, 3 grandchildren, Clay, Lindsey and Samantha and 2 great-grandchildren, Hazel and Jack. Also surviving are 2 nieces and their families.
