Myrna Sue Unger (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Myrna Sue (Blakeman) Unger passed from this life surrounded by her loving family on January 30th, 2018 in Bolivar, Missouri following a brief illness. She was 77 years old.
Sue was born August 17, 1940 to Sid (Sydney) Blakeman who served as sheriff in Butler County, Kansas and to Elouise Strait (Blakeman) (Squier). Sue graduated from high school in Leon, Kansas in 1958, received her bachelor's degree from Kansas State, a master's from Emporia State, and a PhD from Kansas State.
Married to Ralph Wade Unger, of El Dorado, Kansas on April 16, 1960, for 57 years, his wife of noble character, worth more than rubies as the book of Proverbs says.
Sue was a professional educator, teaching Home Ec at Remington High School in Whitewater, Kansas and at the Vocational-Technical School in Newton, Kansas. She was Dean of Instruction at Independence Community College, Director of the Child Study Center at Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri, and served as an instructor in Family and Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University.
Her love of science and education lead to the creation and ownership of M.S. Creations - Hands On Learning from 1990-2008 dealing in materials for science education of young children. Sue spent years presenting and exhibiting throughout the United States. She loved to educate and share resources with many and was always well received.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and is survived by her husband Ralph, and daughters Teressa Kaye Fogarty of Kansas City (Kevin and two grandsons, Lant (Julie) and Jack (Emily)), daughter Crista Leigh Green of Bolivar (grandchildren Annie, Dalton, and Emily (Beau) and great-grandchildren Connor, Adelie, Lorelei, Rowen, and Lyric), and by daughter Mellisa Sue Schwartz of Wichita (Todd and grandchildren Haylee and Blake). Also, her sister Kaye Beam (Jim) and their 2 sons and families and step-sister Judy Mills (Randy) and 2 daughters and families.
Her love for her parents, her husband, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all her family and friends was patient and kind. In the book of Isaiah we read that just as a mother comforts a child, God will comfort us. Sue comforted many a child. We trust that He will now comfort her.
A Celebration of Life, Saturday April 28, 2018, 11-4pm, will take place at the Beaumont, Kansas Community Center. There will be an 11:00am Rememberance service followed with food and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in honor of Dr. Myrna Sue Unger to the Beaumont Community Association at PO Box 119, Beaumont, Kansas 67012 or to Butler Community College Foundation at 901 South Haverhill Road, El Dorado, Kansas 67042.
