Myrtle Myers (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Myrtle Amanda Myers, daughter of Jess Harrison and Minnie Oxendine Myers, was born July 28, 1912, near Drynob, in Laclede County, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in Christian Health Care North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-seven years, eleven months, and eight days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lee U. Myers; and two sisters, Elsie Mustard, and an infant, Alberta Myers.
Myrtle is survived by two nieces, Kathy Nelson, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Debra Summerville, of the State of Texas; three nephews, Sam Mustard and Norman K. Mustard, both of Lebanon, Missouri, and John W. Mustard, of Crane, Missouri; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in Oklahoma and then moved with her family to the Crossroads community near Lebanon, Missouri. She graduated from Lebanon High School and later attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. After obtaining her degree, she worked as a home economist for Pulaski County and also a home extension agent for nine years. She returned to college at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, and took library science classes, and then worked as librarian for Pleasant Hill School, near Kansas City. She eventually retired and moved back to Lebanon.
Myrtle was an avid reader and also enjoyed writing stories and poetry. She was very active in the Hughes Senior Center and was the correspondent of Hughes Center News for the Lebanon Daily Record. She also organized and supervised the Hughes Center Library for a number of years..
She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing for herself and her family. She had a gift for doing woodworking projects and had made several pieces of furniture. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed having time with them. She lived a very full life and made the most of her ninety-seven years.
Myrtle was a loving aunt, and great-aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and know that her family and friends will remember the wonderful times she helped create for them.
