Nancy J Palmer (Seymour)'s Obituary
Nancy J. Palmer age 79 passed away on Wednesday December 12, 2018 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO surrounded by her loving family. Nancy was born on July 29, 1939 in Grass Valley, Ca to Albert and Helen (MacDonald) Hetherington as an only child.
Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend and care giver. She never met a stranger and her door was always open and she was always ready to offer all she had to help anyone in need.
She was a “mom” to many throughout her lifetime. While raising her 5 children her philosophy was the more the merrier. “If they are all at my house then I don’t have to worry about where they are”. And that is exactly what happened. She not only poured her heart into her 5 children, but invested in the lives of many others such as Toni Buchanan, Dennis Myers, Terry Jullian, Karla Fann, Jennifer McDaniel, Teresa Simmons, Becky Piatt, Tammy Galbraith and many more who had the privilege to call her their 2nd mom. She was always ready comfort any of us with an aspirin and a cup of hot tea, a hug or simply a listening ear.
She was very active in 4-H, Girl Scouts, School PTA, Little League, Basketball, Cheerleaders, Barrell Racing, Rodeos or any other activity that her children or grandchildren were part of. She was an excellent seamstress, gardener, spending many hours canning to feed her family and taught all of her children to do the same. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family where she created a love for “Grandma’s Tacos” that no one would ever pass up. Nancy’s tacos was always followed by her cookies or Angel Food cake. Christmas was not the same without numerous dozens of cookies that her entire family fought over who was getting what kind. But of course, she always made sure there were plenty of all.
She was a foster mother for years as her children were growing up and after retirement returned to foster care where she cared for many tiny babies who needed temporary loving homes. After they returned to their parents, mom then became mentors to those parents and shared the love for many children and was still in contact with many. She later adopted her final foster child as a newborn Anthony Cole Shover who is currently age 10.
Nancy confessed her belief in Jesus Christ many years ago at First Assembly of God in Mansfield, MO.
Nancy was employed by Seymour School working in the cafeteria, H.D. Lee, Hutchens Industries, Greyhound Bus Lines. Later as a CNA at Glenn Wood Nursing home along with taking care of many through Home Health Care. She retired from Mercy Villa in Springfield
Nancy is survived by 5 children; Steve Shover and his wife Doris of Diggins, Missouri; Stephanie Bailey and her husband Dale, Kathy Pierson, all of Seymour, Missouri; Amanda Frazier and her husband Eric of Santo, Texas and Anthony Shover of her home. 18 grandchildren, Cody, Amy, Dayna, Eric, April, Jackie, Trista, Grady, Brady, Kesha, Jammi, Kreg, Colten, Braxtyn and Brody, Chris, Keisha and Justin; 42 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, a loving friend Bill Lewis who has embraced the entire family as his own for many years in addition to a multitude of family and friends.
She is preceded in death by one daughter Tammy Emerick of Seymour as well as her parents.
Nancy is dearly loved by her family and will be forever missed.
In lieu of plants and flowers memorial contributions for Anthony can be made through the funeral home.
