Nellie Tucker's Obituary
Nellie Delarm Tucker, daughter of Arthur and Stella Allen Wilson, was born March 14, 1915, near Phillipsburg, in Dallas County, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, January 5, 2008, in Marshfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years, nine months, and twenty-one days. At the age of eighteen, she married Russell Tucker and they shared many years together. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; four brothers, Charles, Frank, Leonard, and Roy Wilson; and a sister, Venus Howerton. Nellie is survived by a sister, Maudie Howerton, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Wilson, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Norma Wilson, of Ozark, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Phillipsburg and Conway area and attended Conway High School. She accepted Christ at an early age, during a revival at the First Baptist Church in Conway. After she and Russell were married, they lived on a farm east of Phillipsburg for a short time before moving to California to find work. This was during the thirties and times were hard. They first went to Ivanhoe, California, where Nellie worked in a packing house, packing fruit. Later, they moved to Dixon, California to work on a dairy farm. Nellie was a hard worker and was up every morning at 3:00 a.m. to help milk 120 cows and do all the clean-up to help Russell. Sometime later they bought their own dairy and milked for several years before selling it and buying a farm near Elk Grove, California. They rented out their land and both of them went to work in Sacramento. Nellie worked for Macy’s for a couple of years before deciding to go to cosmetology school, where she did well and graduated with honors. She practiced for several years before retiring in 1974. Nellie and Russell lived in California for fifty-seven years before selling their farm and returning to Missouri in 1991. After a lot of looking around they settled in Lebanon, and were very happy here. Nellie was so glad to be near her brothers and sisters, that it was like a dream come true for her. During their retirement years, Nellie and Russell enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Blue Canyon. Their cabin was called “Tucker Inn” and it was their favorite place in the world. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking and liked collecting and trying out new recipes. She also enjoyed going shopping. Nellie was a loving sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and all she accomplished and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday January 8, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and last until service time under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
