Nellie West's Obituary
On Thursday, August 30, 2012 our beloved aunt, sister, friend and neighbor Nellie Marie Cornelison West was called home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ from Glenwood Healthcare at the age of eighty-six years, four months and thirteen days. Daughter of Walter and Ethel (Lloyd) Cornelison, Nellie was born April 17, 1926 in the Seymour area.
On September 15, 1943 Nellie was united in marriage to Stone West. Together the couple made their home here in the Seymour area. She was a member of the Homemakers Club. A devoted wife, Nellie cared for her husband and made a home for him and any who entered. She was a Stanley representative for over twenty-two years.
A good friend to a lot of people, Nellie thrived on helping others. She was a Mother Hen, taking in those she loved as if they were her own. You never wondered what she thought, and knew she would give it to you straight. She was the first to be there when someone was in need, and usually with a German chocolate cake or an Angel Food cake in her hand. A true friend, she rejoiced in others success.
A member of the Seymour Free-Will Baptist, Nellie faithfully served her Lord, giving her time and dedicating the steeple in memory of her husband Stone. Nellie loved the Lord, and her church family. She walked in faith, and held close in the good and bad times, knowing that Father God was always there.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty years Stone West; her sisters Vera Hord and Opal Cantrell; and her brother Delbert Cornelison and wife Shirley and Gilbert Cornelison and wife Ruth and an infant brother Cecil Lloyd Cornelison.
Nellie is survived by those she cared for like her own, an aunt; cousins; several nephews and nieces, especially Ladina Cornelison Walker whom she raised from the age of eleven; as well as a host of other dear family, church family, friends and neighbors.
Nellie loved to garden and always shared her harvest with others. We are known by the good fruits that we produce, and Nellie has a legacy of good fruits that she cultivated in her life. From simple gestures of sharing what she had, to opening her home to others, Nellie loved well, gave often. She was happy to cook for others, as many can attest to. The Apple Festival will not be the same, a missing lawn chair in the family reunion of our community.
A loving wife, aunt, cousin, friends, and neighbor, Nellie Marie West has left a heritage of love for her community, for her friends, and her family. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and cherish the memories she created for us all. Although we will miss Nellie, we have comfort knowing she will be the first to greet us someday.
Services will be held Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 2pm in the Holman Howe Chapel. Burial will follow in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Holman Howe Funeral Homes of Seymour. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 in the funeral home.
