Nelma L. Long (Hartville)'s Obituary
Nelma Lovelle Long, daughter of Alva and Cammie Jane Smittle, was born October 23, 1918, near St. George, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, September 2, 2010, in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, ten months and nine days.
On August 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Avis Dwight Long, and to this union three sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Avis, on October 9, 2009; and her sister, Iva Cantrell.
Nelma is survived by her three sons, Tom Long, of Springfield, Missouri, John Long and his wife, Patty, of Ozark, Missouri, and Randall Long and Carol Harvey of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Chris Long and his wife, Dani, of Haughton, Louisiana, Amy York and her husband, Andy, of Springfield, Missouri, and Elizabeth Long and her fiancé, Joey Stoll, of Salem, Alabama; three great-grandchildren, John William York, Allison Long and Christopher Henry; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Born in the St. George area of Wright County, then later her family moved to other communities in Missouri, and the western United States during the Depression Years. She returned to the Hartville area where she met and married Avis. They made their home in the Coldwater Community, on the family farm, where they resided the rest of their lives. She centered her life around her family and her home.
She found pleasure in traveling, bird watching, crocheting, reading, her rock collection, growing beautiful flowers and tending her garden.
Nelma was a devoted wife and mother, and was a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed, but will live on in our hearts forever.
