Neva Loretta Burns, daughter of Henry and Della Perry McKelvey, was born November 18, 1938, in Laclede County, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, May 19, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, six months, and one day.
She was united in marriage to James Robert Burns, and to this union two daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Cecil McKelvey; and a sister, Naoma Hawkins.
Neva is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, J.R. “Jim”, of the home; two daughters, Pam McGuire, and her husband, Dale, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Tammy Volner, and her husband, Bobby, of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren, Cody, Zack, and Shana; several nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Lebanon area, and graduated from Lebanon High School. She began dating Jim when she was fourteen years old, and after they were married they made their home in Lebanon. Neva was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, and also worked at Consumer’s Market for a time. She had also been a manager of a Get & Go Store for awhile. She and Jim then made their home in Springfield for many years.
Neva followed the Baptist faith throughout her life.
In her spare time she enjoyed fishing and camping, and was proud of teaching each of her grandchildren how to catch their “first” fish. She also enjoyed going to garage sales and auctions. She loved her family dearly and was especially fond of her grandchildren.
Neva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
