Neva L. Sutton's Obituary
Neva Lora Sutton, daughter of Sam and Sarah Elizabeth Lindsay Snow, was born April 3, 1921, near Orla, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, June 28, 2013, in Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, two months, and twenty-five days.
On January 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Jesse Ralph Sutton, and to this union two daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph, on October 8, 2001; a son-in-law, Alvin Tatman; two brothers, Ray and Leslie; and five sisters, Asilee, Audrey, Janie, Edna, and Hazel.
Neva is survived by two daughters, Janet Tatman, of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Sammye Cogdill, and her husband, Karmon, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Sarah K. Herdman, Lynn King, and her husband, Greg, Dax Cogdill, and his wife, Amy, and Chantz Cravens, and her husband, Garrett; seven great-grandchildren, Luke, and his wife, Victoria, Heather, and her husband, Ken, Blake, Kirra, Kinley, Brylie, and KateLynne; two great-great-grandchildren, Samuel and Ashlea; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Orla community and attended Gardner School. After she and Ralph were married they made their home in Lebanon, Missouri, and lovingly raised their daughters. Neva was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family. She also worked at Holman Funeral Home as a housekeeper for Elmer Holman and Dorsey Howe at one time
Neva made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon.
In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, making quilts, listening to music, and growing beautiful plants, particularly African Violets. She liked to go out to eat and enjoyed taking rides and short trips. She had a great love for animals and always had a pet. One of her favorite activities was going to the dance at Hughes Senior Center on Saturday evenings with Kathy and Mark. Her family was very dear to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren.
Neva was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
Memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association or McBride Cemetery, and left at the funeral home.
