Nolan Camp's Obituary
Nolan Edmund Ray Camp, son of Edward and Mamie Boldt Camp, was born October 28, 1925, in Hammond, Indiana. He was healed of his physical ailments on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, by his Great Physician and Savior Jesus Christ, at the age of eighty-six years, two months, and five days. Nolan met Edith Caroline Schmitt through Walther League, and married her on October 4, 1947, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hammond, Indiana. To this union three daughters and two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Norman, Norbert, and Novan Camp. Nolan is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Edith, of the home; his children, Roland Camp, and his wife, Kathryn, of Munster, Indiana, Susette Dorsey, and her husband, Bob Giovannoni, of Chicago, Illinois, Diane Zurawski, of Griffith, Indiana, Linda Camp, of Hammond, Indiana, and Robert Camp, of Lebanon, Missouri; his grandchildren, Caroline Ill, and her husband, Peter, ET3 John Camp, Sasha Camp, Matthew and Michael Zurawski; a sister-in-law, Darlene Camp; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Hammond, Indiana, and graduated from high school there. He began working as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in 1946, and continued in that endeavor until retiring in 1983. Nolan and Edith retired near Lebanon, Missouri, and owned and operated a cattle farm for several years before moving into Lebanon. Nolan was an active member at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Hammond/Munster, Indiana for many years. After moving to Lebanon, he became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the Boards of Deacons, Stewardship, and Social Ministry. He also belonged to the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 580, serving as steward, treasurer, vice-president and president. He organized Boy Scout Troop # 250 at St. Paul?s Lutheran School, in Hammond, in 1946, and served as Scout Master until 1953. He also assisted with scout troops that his sons belonged to for several years. After moving to Lebanon, Nolan served as a volunteer fireman and board member of the Eldridge, Missouri Fire Department. He also fought wildfires with the Missouri Conservation Strike Team for ten years. Nolan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories he made for his family and friends.
