Nona Mays' Obituary
Nona Faye Mays, daughter of Harrison and Myrtle Harp Petty, was born August 23, 1927, in Crowell, Texas. She departed this life Saturday, September 10, 2011, in St. John?s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, and seventeen days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Elvin Sutton; her second husband, Clifford M. Mays; three brothers; and two sisters.
Nona is survived by two daughters, Sherri Chapin, and her husband, Wayne Weaver, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Sandra Mohrmann, and her husband, Larry, of Amity, Arkansas; a stepson, Paul Mays, and his wife, Bonnie, of Lebanon, Missouri; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Cora McBride, of Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born in Texas, and was raised in Norman, Arkansas, where she graduated from high school. As a young adult, she moved to the San Francisco Bay area of California, where she lived for several years. In 1975, she and Clifford moved to the Lebanon, Missouri area and made their home. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Nona and Clifford owned and operated the Tri-Angle Dairy and Grocery and then Nona worked for the H. D. Lee Company for about ten years.
Nona had made her profession of faith in Christ and was an active member of Highland Park Church of God in Lebanon.
In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, sewing, and visiting the elderly in nursing homes. Her family was always very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Nona was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends throughout the years.
