Norma I. Allen (Hartville)'s Obituary
Norma Irene Allen was born February 1, 1937 to Virginia Louisiana Carr and Clarence Edward Spitler in Upper Sandusky Ohio. During her childhood years she moved to the Pacific Northwest with her family. At age 12 she gave her life to Christ and began a life of serving Him. When she was 18 she met J.D. Allen while she was working at a drug store soda fountain. He was immediately taken with how hot her fudge was and they became a couple. They were married October 22nd, 1955 and were married 58 years. They lived in the Northwest for a number of years before moving to Missouri and eventually to Wright County where they became a part of the fabric of local life.
Norma enjoyed farm life. She loved horses, going on trail rides, and horse shows. She raised registered sheep for 25 years. She enjoyed watching the baby lambs play. She was a 4-H leader for 20 years and was a leader for horsemanship, sheep, goats and chickens. She was on the Wright County Junior Fair Board for several years. She loved working with children. Over the years she taught innumerable children to ride horses and to show sheep and goats.
Norma loved to teach four and five-year-olds in Sunday school and did so for more 30 years in various churches. She and J.D. helped with bus ministries in their churches as well, bringing many children to church over the years. Norma also enjoyed working with children in Vacation Bible School. She was a member of First Baptist Hartville, Missouri.
Norma and JD were also members of Grovespring TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Club. They both won many awards losing weight and staying at their goal.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Richard Spitler. Her husband J.D. Allen passed away May 28th, 2014.
She is survived by her brother David Spitler of Portland Oregon and her five children; Roy Allen and his wife Lori of Hamilton, Missouri; Barbara VonMoss and her husband Mike of Jesup, Georgia; Connie George and her husband Jim of Clarinda, Iowa; Amanda Allen of Walnut Grove, Missouri; and Deborah Allen of Walnut Grove, Missouri. She is survived as well by her grandchildren Jimmy, Hannah, Josh, Justin, Andrea, Olivia, Eric, Alanna, Jeffery, Kara, Josiah, and Rebekah. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, with one on the way.
Norma went to be with Jesus and her beloved J.D. on December 4th, 2018 in Clarinda, Iowa.
