Norma L Cox (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Norma Lee Cox (Foster) of Republic, MO passed away on February 20, 2025. Norma, the daughter of Odessa Mae (Tommie) Foster (Graves) and Wilburn C. (Wib) Foster, was born on December 22, 1939 in Bolivar, MO. Norma graduated from Bolivar High School in 1957. She then married Danny G. Cox and they had three children, Steven D Cox, Victoria L Cox, and a stillborn son. The small family moved to Republic, MO in 1964. Once both children were in school, Norma began working four hours a week at the Republic Post Office. After many years of service in the USPS, Norma was appointed Postmaster of Republic. She was very involved in the building and relocation of the Republic Office when it was moved to its current location at Highway 60 and Harrison Street. Norma retired from the postal service in 1992. She also served on the Republic Area Chamber of Commerce.
Even though Norma worked, she was dedicated to her children. She was very involved in Cub Scouts when Steven was a member. She helped out during school parties dividing her time between Steve’s class and Vicki’s class. She attended all the band concerts, and all the football games to watch both kids perform. She also went to all of Vicki’s home basketball games.
After retirement, Norma served for several years as secretary in the local chapter of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees). Norma volunteered several years at St. John’s Hospital in public relations. Norma was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the German Society, and the Robert Burns Society. She was extensively interested in genealogy and was a member of and volunteered at the Ozarks Genealogical Society Library.
Norma loved traveling with Dan, and she was very proud of the fact that she had visited every state which you can drive to. Yes, this included driving the Alcan highway to visit Alaska.
Norma was saved in a tent revival at a young age and joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church shortly after. She later moved her membership to Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield where she maintained her membership until her death.
Norma is survived by her husband Danny of Republic, son Steven Cox of Bolivar, and daughter Victoria Cox-Jones (Harry Jones) of Broomfield, CO. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Association.
