Olive Parsons' Obituary
Olive Chloe Parsons, daughter of William Harrison and Frankie Harrison Carter, was born May 29, 1921, near Hazelgreen, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, April 22, 2006, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, ten months, and twenty-three days. On April 8, 1938, she was united in marriage to Richard Calkin, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. On July 29, 1961, she was married to Alfred Rex Parsons, and together they shared twenty-four years before his passing on August 11, 1985. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Christopher Mark Garbee; two brothers, Alfie Lee and Roy Carter; and an infant sister, Sylvia Mae Carter. Olive is survived by a son, Larry Calkin, and his wife, Janice, of Camdenton, Missouri; a daughter, Carolyn Garbee, and her husband, Raymond, of Billings, Missouri; four grandchildren, Angela Sallee, Danny Garbee, Matthew Garbee, and Benjamin Garbee; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was raised in the Stoutland community and graduated from Stoutland High School. She moved to Lebanon, Missouri, in the mid 1940’s and made her home. In addition to being a devoted homemaker and loving mother, Olive also worked in the news department at the Lebanon Daily Record for thirty years, retiring in 1991. Olive was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. Olive had belonged to the Rebekah Lodge # 680 in Lebanon. In her spare time she enjoyed collecting books by Harold Bell Wright, and making Afghans. She liked being outdoors and bird watching and growing beautiful flowers were two of her favorite activities. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Olive was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience. Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church may be made through the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
