Joetta Reetz
Great Aunt Ona was one remarkable Lady!
I treasure the embroidered State Bird quilt that she gave me for my wedding gift. Whenever we showed up at her home, she would get busy and make the most wonderful homemade meal complete with biscuits, fried chicken, pies, etc. The most memorable is her white water cakes with chocolate frosting with canned peaches! My daughters, Schylene and Alexandria, continues to talk about her cakes. My Mom and Dad, Zelma and Grant Chastain, loved her cooking and visiting with Ona.
One thing that Ona was worried about: Schylene was an old maid. I hope Ona knew that Schylene married a wonderful man, Ivan Sanders, in January this year.
I remember lots of days when I was growing up when my family would split up and attend estate / farm sales purchasing antiques for Ona and Ervin. They would clean up and resale the antiques. They had an amazing touch for restoration and preserving history. This activity led to my lifetime love of antiques and history which I share with my daughters.
Ona was the last link to the oldest generation in my family. She will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Jim, Janie, Tommy, Timmy, Becky, and family. May God's Loving Arms surround you giving peace and strength.
One Lucky Woman who was a Great Niece of Ona! Joetta (Chastain) Reetz
