Opal Brasher's Obituary
Opal Marie Brasher, daughter of Joseph Franklin and Lena Pearl Moon Carver, was born September 17, 1916 in Florence, Missouri. She departed this life, Tuesday, November 7, 2006 in Osage Beach Health Care Center in Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of ninety years, one month and twenty days. On June 19, 1941 she was united in marriage to George Oliver Smith and to this union two children were born. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1965. She later married James D. Brasher. He also preceded her in death on February 18, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Andrew Carver. Survivors include a daughter, Cecelia Smith, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a son, Gail Smith of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Norman Carver, and his wife, Edith, of Bunceton, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Jan Smith, of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends. Opal and her family moved to Bunceton, Missouri shortly after she was born. She was raised there and attended school at Pisgah and Bunceton High School. After graduation she worked as a waitress at Arrowhead Lodge and the Governor McClerk at the lake. She met and married her husband and they moved back to the Bunceton area and later to St. Louis where they lived during their working years. Aside from being a devoted wife, homemaker and mother, Opal had worked as a hostess at Perkins Restaurant in St. Louis for many years. She retired to the lake area thirty years ago. Opal made a profession of faith and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Osage Beach, Missouri. While in St. Louis she was very active in her church, serving as Vacation Bible School Director and Director of the Women’s Sunday School. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting and flower gardening. Opal was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2006, in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in the Eldon City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Services are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri. Memorials to the American Heart Association may be made through the funeral home.
