Pansy Shannon's Obituary
Pansy Lea Shannon, daughter of Charles L. and Grace Calhoun Skinner, was born May 29, 1924, near Norwood, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, one month, and eighteen days. In 1962, she was united in marriage to Wilbert E. Ballard, and to this union one daughter was born. Mr. Ballard passed away in 1967. On October 11, 1968, she married Arthur Willard Shannon, and they shared thirty-two years before Arthur’s passing on November 8, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Lowell Skinner. Pansy is survived by a daughter, Janice Shoemaker, and her husband, David, of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandsons, Brandon Shoemaker, and his wife, RaeAnn, and Ryan Shoemaker, and his wife, Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Addie and Brody Shoemaker; a step-daughter, Karen Cook, and her husband, Jack, of Lebanon, Missouri; several step-grandchildren; two brothers, Troy Skinner, of Bolivar, Missouri, and Dean Skinner, of Simi Valley, California; a sister, Norma Spurlock, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Norwood community, and graduated from Hartville High School, in Hartville, Missouri. Early in her adult years, she was a teacher at the Moore and Johnson Schools, and also attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield. She then worked as a civil service employee at Fort Leonard Wood for a few years. After she and Wilbert were married, they made their home in Waynesville, Missouri, and lovingly raised their daughter. Once she and Arthur were married, they made their home in Lebanon, and Pansy was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Pansy made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was an active member of Unity Freewill Baptist Church for the last twenty years. In her spare time she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and cooking. She was especially well known for her delicious homemade pies. Her family was always the center of her life and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Pansy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday July 10, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Visitation is Thursday evening 7-8:30pm at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
