Paul Climer's Obituary
Paul Eugene Climer, son of Theodore Roosevelt and Nellie Angline (Jinks) Climer, was born August 24, 1926, near Grovespring, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, September 9, 2010, in his home, in Grovespring, at the age of eighty-four years, and fifteen days.
On June 1, 1996, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Pauline (New) Hoover, and they have shared the last fourteen years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Jean (Reeder) Climer; his brother, Jerrel Climer, and an infant brother.
Paul is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of the home; his daughter, Kathy Martin and her husband, Billy, of St. Louis, Missouri; three step-sons, Bobby Lee and his wife, Betty, of St. Louis, Missouri, Brent Hoover of Grovespring, Missouri, and Curtis Wade Hoover and his wife, Rhonda, of Marshfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ervil Climer and his wife, Mildred, of Springfield, Missouri and Dean Climer and his wife, Pat, of St. Louis, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Wright County, in the Grovespring area, where he graduated from Grovespring High School in the Class of 1944, of which he was the Salutatorian. He then entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 11, 1946. He returned to Wright County and later moved to St. Louis, where he resided for many years. Throughout those years he owned and operated an antique and furniture store and his auction company there. In 1994 he moved back to Grovespring, and has made his home there since.
Paul had professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of the White Dove Fellowship Church. He was very instrumental and supportive of the church’s White Dove Christian Academy, going to Educators Convention, and being able to attend the Regional Student Conventions in Springfield. He was a life member of the Hartville VFW, was a forty year member of the Lion’s Club, with the last sixteen years in the Grovespring Club. One of the highlights of his life was to be selected to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to see the World War II Memorial.
He was a kind and caring man always ready to give a helping hand to those in need.
Paul was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a cherished brother and uncle, and was a trusted neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments, and will forever hold dear the memories he created for his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed and will live on in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be Monday September 13, at 11 am in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville, Missouri. Visitation will be Sunday September 12 6-8 Pm in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Chapel
