Pauline Starnes' Obituary
Iva Pauline Starnes, daughter of Clarence and Beatrice Cansler Holmes, was born October 28, 1921, near Drynob, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in Raymore Healthcare Center, in Raymore, Missouri, at the age of eighty-four years, two months, and nineteen days. On February 27, 1937, she was united in marriage to Dean Winfred Starnes, and to this three sons were born. A few years later, a daughter, Judy, completed the family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean, on September 19, 1993; two granddaughters, Wendy Starnes, and Valerie Hebenstreit; a grandson, Jason Starnes; and a sister, Arlene Busick. Pauline is survived by a daughter, Judy Gundrum, and her husband, Charlie, of Tampa, Florida; three sons, Larry Starnes, and his wife, Margaret, of Belton, Missouri, Jerry Starnes, and his wife, Karen, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Paul Starnes, and his wife, Judy, of Fredricktown, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, “Sonny” Holmes; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Drynob community, near Lebanon. After she and Dean were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Pauline worked for the Rice Stix Factory, which later became the H. D. Lee Company, for a total of twenty years. The last few years she had made her home in Raymore to be closer to some of her family. Pauline made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lebanon. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, and was an avid reader. She bore her illness with great dignity for the last several years and was an example of true courage in action. Her family was very special to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pauline was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. A memorial to the Parkinson's Foundation has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
