Peggy Silvey (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Wilma Marie “Peggy” Silvey was born June 30, 1929, in Dexter, Missouri, to Mildred L. (Yeager) Cowan, and Thomas L. Cowan.
She passed away at Butterfield Residential Care, in Bolivar, on February 23, 2016.
Peggy grew up in Dexter, where she was well-liked and involved in many school and community activities. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1947, and married H.W. “Bill” Boone, June 27 of that year. To them were born two children; W. Thomas “Tom” and Magdalene L. “Magda”. The Family lived in South East Missouri until they moved to Michigan in 1954. While Living in Clio, Peggy was a home-maker, and a faithful, involved member of the First Baptist Church. She served as Church Treasurer and taught childrens’ Sunday School classes for many years.
Peggy was a nightly prayer warrior and spent hours on her knees praying with her best friend, Gussie.
In 1975, Peggy moved to Bolivar, Missouri, to be near her children, leaving many friends and family behind in Michigan. She became a dorm mom at Southwest Baptist College (SBU), and became “Mom Boone” to many young men in the years she served.
While working at the college, Peggy met and fell in love with L.D. Silvey. They were married August 7, of 1982. At that time Peggy became a secretary in the office of the First Baptist Church in Bolivar, where she worked until her retirement. Peggy remained involved in church activities, serving in the Toddler department in Sunday School for many years.
She was a member of the Citizens Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, working at the reception desk. She enjoyed her job there, as she jokingly said, “Telling people where to go.” Peggy also blessed many families by making crocheted caps for newborns.
Peggy was an exceptionally gracious lady, a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She leaves behind a multitude of people who love her.
Peggy is survived by her husband, L.D. Silvey, of Bolivar; her son, Tom and wife Kathryn, of Springfield, Missouri; a daughter, Magda Neill and husband Joe, also of Bolivar; step daughter, Gaytha Suits and husband David, of Willard, Missouri; step daughter, Jana Hesselton and late husband Garey, also of Willard; brother, Thomas L. Cowan and wife Sue, of Moulton, Alabama; grandchildren, Jennifer Boone Hargis and husband Darin, of Fordland, Drew Boone and wife Whitney, of Littleton, Colorado, and Ryan Boone, of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Alice, Liam, and Amelia Boone, of Littleton, Colorado. She was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews.
