Rachel Bennett's Obituary
Rachel Illene Bennett, daughter of Joseph Lee and Ada Pearl Cantrell was born September 14, 1926 near Marshfield in Webster County, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, March 12, 2011 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-four years, five months and twenty-six days.
On February 14, l943 Rachel was united in marriage to Foey Webster Bennett and to this union two daughters and four sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Foey on February 16, 1989; a great-granddaughter, Abrea Barnes; two brothers, Lester Cantrell and Jesse D. Young; and one sister, Lenora McCormack.
Rachel is survived by two daughters, Kathy Cantrell, of Seymour, Missouri and Barbara Pirtle of Conway, Missouri; four sons, Kenneth Bennett, of Diggins, Missouri, Tom Bennett, Lester Bennett, and Chester Bennett and his wife, Teresa, all of Seymour, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, Marsha, Carolyn, Sheila, Walter, Jr., Jill, Wayland, Stephanie, Tina, Paula, Rachel, Kenny, Brady, Grady, Eric, Erin, and Amanda; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Oliver Cantrell and his wife, Jessie, of Bellflower, California; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She grew up near Seymour and lived in the area most of her life except for the time that the family lived in various places while Foey served with the United States Air Force and United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Besides being a devoted homemaker to her family, she had worked at and retired from the H.D. Lee Company in Seymour.
Rachel was saved and baptized at the old Bethel Freewill Baptist Church near Seymour and attended the Seymour Church of the Nazarene until her health began to fail.
In her spare time enjoyed crocheting and cooking for her family and friends. She loved visiting with her friends and family and listening to and telling fishing stories.
Rachel was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the precious memories she created for her family and friends.
Services are 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, march 16, 2011 in Holman-Howe Chapel in Seymour with Reverend Mark Terrill officiating under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour. Visitation will be 7-8:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 366, Seymour, MO 65746.
