Ralph Gilchrist's Obituary
Ralph Wayne Gilchrist, 71, of Bolivar passed away peacefully in his home, Friday, December 5, 2008. He was born November 21, 1937, in Shenandoah, Iowa, the eldest son of Ralph and Jackie Gilchrist. Ralph graduated from University of Missouri Law School in Columbia in 1968. He was appointed Polk County Prosecutor in 1969, then was elected and held the position for eight years. He practiced law in Bolivar for over 40 years. He had three children from his first marriage to Ann (Comstock): Laurie, David and Jeff Gilchrist and one foster daughter Cindy Fletcher. He had 3 stepchildren from his second marriage to Linda (Stockstill): Kim and Bruce Hood and Derek Taylor. Ralph was an avid fisherman, hunter and all-around outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He was a member of American Legion Post #138 and an U.S. Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda (Stockstill) Gilchrist; three children, Laurie Gilchrist of Bolivar, David Gilchrist of Aldrich, and Jeff Gilchrist of Austin Texas; three stepchildren Kim Trobish and husband Stephen, Bruce Hood and wife Tonna, and Derek Taylor, all of Bolivar; one brother Jim Gilchrist and his wife Sue of Bolivar, and one sister Shirlee Smith of Rockport, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 11, 2008, at 6 p.m., in the American Legion Hall #138, 1424 West Broadway, Bolivar. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Legion #138. Arrangements under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar.
