Raymond Richard Cornelison's Obituary
Raymond Richard Cornelison, son of Frederick Raymond and Carrie Oliva (Barker) Cornelison, was born January 13, 1927, in Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life, Friday, February 17, 2006, in his home, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, one month, and four days. On June 1, 1958, he was united in marriage to Goldie Faye Williams, and to this union two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William Jackson Cornelison, and Freddie Cornelison. Raymond is survived by two sons, Bobby Cornelison, of Walnut Grove, Missouri, and Charles Cornelison, and his wife, Leslie, of Plano, Texas; two grandchildren, Thomas Ray and Megan Cornelison, of Plano, Texas; a brother, Jim Cornelison, and his wife, Mary, of Derby, Kansas; eight sisters, Magoline Clark, of Derby, Kansas, Anna Louise Tucker, and her husband, Jack, and Esther Tucker, and her husband, Ellis, all of Twin Falls, Idaho, Edna Cornelison, of Seymour, Missouri, Kathleen Sartin, and her husband, Dean, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Imogene Ramsey, and her husband, Bob, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Nancy Priboth, and her husband, Frank, and Carol Bateman, and her husband, Van, all of Bella Vista, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Wilda Cornelison, of Towanda, Kansas; his longtime friend, Goldie Cornelison Burns, of Springfield, Missouri; his special friends, Brenda Burgess, and her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Brandon Layton; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Finley Falls area, near Seymour. He then entered the service, where he served his country faithfully in the United States Army, during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army he moved back to Seymour, then, after he and Goldie were married, they moved to Springfield and lovingly raised their family. He worked at Southwest Missouri State University, as the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman, for forty-years and retired in 1990. Raymond had a personal relationship with the Lord, and had attended First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Springfield. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, fishing, and doing handy work and lawn care for his friends and neighbors. Raymond was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will cherish the memories he created for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial with full military honors will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Gorman-Sharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, MO. Visitation will also be held Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Memorial contributions to St. John's Hospice or the American Cancer Society may be made through the funeral home.
