Rev. Carroll "Red" Ankrom (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Reverend Carroll Dean “Red” Ankrom, age 90, son of Elmer and Grace (Hensley) Ankrom, was born October 23, 1932, in Van, Missouri and departed this life on October 5, 2023.
On September 12, 1953, he was united in marriage to Patricia Jarman and to this union two sons were born, Randy and Mike.
He was a cabinet maker by trade and in February 1962, on a cold and cloudy day he was working in a cabinet shop in Bonner Springs, Kansas, praying while he worked when the Lord saved him. After he was saved, he looked out of the window and said, “It was the brightest day I ever saw.” He joined Jericho Missionary Baptist Church in Independence, MO and was baptized in a river by Rev. Chester Viles. The Lord called him to preach a short time later the same year. He was ordained to the ministry May 4, 1969, by Walnut Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. He was pastor at Slagle MBC at the time. Since then, he pastored several churches in Missouri; Parma, Idaho; Oxnard, California; Coos Bay, Oregon and held Revival meetings in Missouri, Idaho, California, Oregon and Las Vegas, Nevada.
In 1948, he joined the US Navy and served his country aboard on aircraft carrier, the USS Leyte, during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Grace; three sisters, Shirley, Joannis and Betty; two brothers, Charles and Dennis; and his wife, Patricia.
He is survived by two sons, Randy Ankrom and wife Dana, Rev. Mike Ankrom and wife Brenda; five grandsons, Jason Ankrom, David Robinson and wife Ashlee, Riley Ankrom, Jake Haan and John Ankrom; three great-grandchildren, Zayne Robinson, Evye Robinson and Lyla Ankrom; and a sister, Willa Goins.
Services will be held under the direction of Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, MO with visitation from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Doyle Mayfield and Rev. Joe Sprague officiating. Burial will follow the service at New Bethel Cemetery in Halfway, Missouri.
