Reverend L. Lyall Parsons' Obituary
Rev. Lavern Lyall Parsons, son of Harold Arthur and Gladys Audrey Halstead Parsons, was born November 14, 1929, in Brown County, Nebraska. He departed this life Saturday, July 15, 2006, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, eight months, and one day. On November 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Alline Jennings, and to this union two sons were born. His parents, and two sons, Matthew and Timothy Parsons, preceded him in death. Lyall is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Mary, of the home; a brother, Willard Parsons, and his wife, Agnes, of Flemington, Missouri; a special friend, Cliff Eckhoff, of Mount Vernon, Illinois; his mother-in-law, Ida Jennings, of Lebanon, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Billy Jennings, and his wife, Roena, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Leota Napper, and her husband, Jack, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Donita Reid, and her husband, Darrel, of Willard, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in Nebraska and graduated from Amsworth High School. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army, during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he moved to Missouri, where he met and married Mary, and they made their home in the Lebanon area. He then attended Central Bible College, in Springfield, Missouri, and became an Assembly of God minister. Throughout the years, he served congregations at Mount Olivet Assembly of God Church, near Lebanon, and in Steele and Crocker, Missouri. He also served the church in St. Clair, Missouri for sixteen years. He and Mary eventually retired back to Lebanon, and Lyall worked in the maintenance department for Lebanon R-III Schools for a number of years. Lyall was a longtime member of the Assembly of God faith and after retiring, he attended the Lebanon First Assembly of God for as long as his health allowed. He had excellent carpentry skills and enjoyed his work for the school system. He liked to go camping, take trips in his R.V., and doing gunsmith work. He also spent a lot of time studying his Bible. Lyall was a loving family man, a devoted pastor, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Lebanon. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
