Rex Maddux Harmon (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Rex Maddux Harmon was born to Hanna and Lillie Harmon in Urbana, MO on July 17, 1934 and departed this life on June 27, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Buffalo, MO. Rex graduated from Tunas High School in 1952 and proceeded to marry the love of his life, Burma Smith, on May 31, 1952. They first made their home in Independence, MO but after only a couple years, their home area was calling them back. They moved and opened Hugo’s Citi Service in Macks Creek, MO. In 1963 they moved to the farm near their family. After a short stint working in Alaska, Rex was working construction, running cattle and owned the buses for Tunas School. Rex and Burma built a dairy and milked for a few years before he began his career as an engineer for Preston Refrigeration, where he worked until his retirement. Rex and Burma raised three children during their marriage, Judy, Greg, and Sherri. They enjoyed crappie fishing for years, and later, letting the grandchildren come along when they could. They also loved playing cards and playing pool with Russell and Peggy, as well as traveling with a group of friends. Rex and Burma celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on May 31, 2021, just six weeks before Burma went to be with the Lord. Rex missed her dearly these past four years, now they are together again. Rex was saved and baptized on July 11, 1948 and became a member of the Tunas Christian Church, where in later years he was a deacon, and was an essential part of the construction of the new sanctuary. He was always willing to lend a hand with anything that was needed. Rex was preceded in death by his wife Burma; his parents; two brothers, Roscoe and Russell; and two sisters, Helen Lee and Irene. He is survived by his children, Judy Dampier (Bob) of Tunas, Greg Harmon (Sarah) of Urbana, and Sherri Harmon Parrack (Bryan) of Kansas City and Macks Creek; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Phyllis Barclay, Marilyn Fitzgerald, and Carolyn Hayes; and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Morris officiating. Escorts will be Chris Dampier, Ryan Doyle, Cody West, Mason West, Harley Kays, Coleman Dampier, Chandler Dampier, and Tyler Stauch. Interment will be in the Hopewell Cemetery under the care and direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunas Christian Church or the Hopewell Cemetery Fund.
