Richard Amos' Obituary
Richard Murel Amos, son of Noah Wilson and Ila May Lewis Amos, was born January 5, 1923, near Agnes, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, September 26, 2008, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, eight months, and twenty-one days. On September 26, 1950, he was united in marriage to Bernita Lee Evans, and to this union one daughter was born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Amos; and three sisters, Cleo Long, Lillian Robertson, and Isabelle Amos. Murel is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Bernita, of the home; a daughter, Mary Alice Amos, of Lebanon, Missouri; a brother, Robert Amos, of Topeka, Kansas; two sisters, Lennie Irene Edwards, and her husband, John Ed, of Simi Valley, California, and Susa Mae Davis, and her husband, Sherman, of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Louise Amos, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in the Orla, Missouri community, and graduated from Competition High School in the Class of 1941. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed on an oil tanker as part of the Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged from the military, he and Bernita made their home near Stoutland and lovingly raised their daughter. They later made their home on their farm located on the Gasconade River. In addition to operating his farm, Murel also worked for Mid-America Dairy for thirty-one and one half years. Murel was saved early in his life and joined the Berean Baptist Church. He had attended the Second Baptist Church in Lebanon for the last several years. He was a member of the Lebanon Camp of the Gideon Bible Ministry. He was a quiet man, but enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and friends. He and Bernita also liked to travel. Murel was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be at 11:00 am Monday September 29, 2008 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in the Stoutland Cemtery.
