Richard Clay Cravens (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Richard Cravens, 93 years of age, passed away on September 17, 2022, at Citizen’s Memorial Healthcare Facility in Bolivar, Missouri.
Richard Clay Cravens, son of Clay Calhoun Cravens and Sarah Elizabeth Claxton Cravens, was born on October 11, 1928 on the farm settled by Cannon Claxton in northern Wright County near Competition, MO. He attended Elk Creek Grade School and Competition High School.
Richard married Ethel Faye Hill September 20, 1950. They lived for many years on the Claxton homestead. He attended Southwest Baptist College, then attended Southwest Missouri State University, earning a B.S. in Education in 1959. He later completed a Masters in Education Degree from Drury College in 1963, and a Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from Missouri State University in 1977. He taught in several school districts during his career, including small schools in Wright and Laclede Counties, Lebanon, Boonville, and completed his career as Superintendent of Schools in Glasgow Missouri.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pansy Lucille Iffert; brother Edwin Courtney Cravens, and brother Clifton Price Cravens.
Richard is survived by Ethel, his wife of 72 years, sister Sally Mueller and husband Buck, three children; Sara Stock and husband Ed of Branson, Richard Dean Cravens and wife Laura of Columbia, and Roxy Hudson and husband Kevin of Bolivar; five grandchildren, Jennifer Stock, Anna Luellen, JoBeth Lynch, Jesse Cravens, and Katy Cohran; and seven great-grandchildren Hannah Luellen, Ethan Luellen, Elizabeth Lynch, Landon Cochran, Eleanor Lynch, Macy Cochran, and Atiye Anaya Nabeel Mohsin. In addition, Richard leaves a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri. Reverend Dennis Hudson will officiate the service. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
