As kids, we had a lot of fun when visiting my cousins in Missouri. I remember Richie, Roy, Russell, Lonnie, Steve, and my brothers, and myself playing in the haystack. Somehow we survived without it caving in on us. Gulp! We also tried to ride the calves together. Let’s just say that the calves won! Then there was the time that we got in the pen with mama pig and her babies. Whew!! I didn’t know I could run so fast and jump so high as when she came after us. Richie would always just laugh about it. We used to go swimming in the pond back in the day. I can’t believe we survived all the snapping turtles in those ponds. Our guardian angels worked double duty while we were at play. We loved to set off fireworks at night time. Uncle Pete was not very fond of the fireworks! We had a blast trying to catch the fireflies and June bugs. Those were the good ol’ days! I have very fond memories of my cousins. As Billy Graham said, Richie’s “last breath on earth was his first breath in heaven”. I am sure his entire family that went on before him welcomed him home. Rest in peace! Love you, Shirley (Stigall) Schulz
