Richard Overbay (Lebanon) Sr.'s Obituary
Richard Allen Overbay, Sr., son of Noah and Elsie Irene Simons Overbay, was born January 11, 1947, in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He departed this life Monday, January 5, 2015, in his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of sixty-seven years, eleven months, and twenty-five days.
On March 20, 1982, he was united in marriage to Linda Darlene Manes, and they shared the last thirty-two years.
He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Ruth Overbay, in 1980; and a sister, Shirley Lidke.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Linda, of the home; three sons, John Adams, and his wife, Kelly, Richard Overbay, Jr., all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Jason Adams, and his wife, Amy, of San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Beverly Tubbs, and her husband, Allen, Melissa Overbay, and her fiancé, Tony McDonald, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Cindy Dunkin, and her partner, Crystal Crispin, of Falcon, Missouri; twenty-one grandchildren, Christopher, Cody, Paige, Ricky, Malori, Lawrence, J. P., David, Ryan, Brian, Joey, Madison, Sara, Jennifer, Nicholas, Caleb, Coda, Cheyanne, Colton, Conner, and Paul; two great-grandchildren, Carrissa and Dillon; his mother, Elsie Overbay, of Lebanon, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Maryland, and then entered the military as a young man. He served in the United States Army from 1965 until retiring in 1985, and was stationed in various locations in the states and abroad during the Vietnam War. He had earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was presented a National Defense Vietnam Campaign medal. After retiring, he and Linda moved to Lebanon, Missouri and made their home.
Richard had made his profession of faith in Christ and was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing softball, and camping with his family. He particularly loved the mountains and enjoyed all kinds of snow adventures. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated and decorated soldier, and a good friend to many.
