Richard "Roy" Greer (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Richard Roy Greer, son of Theodore H. and Alberta Bartholomew Greer, was born August 17, 1935, in St. Catherine, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, August 29, 2017, in Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, at the age eighty-two years, and twelve days.
On October 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lena May Triplett, and to this union three sons were born. Lena passed away on August 4, 1994.
On June 14, 1997, he married Donna Butterfield Burkhart, and they shared the last twenty years.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Keith and Merrell Greer; and a sister, Mary Alice Goodwin.
Roy is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; three sons, Lyndon Greer, and his wife, Brenda, of Everton, Missouri, Eldon Greer, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Norman Greer, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two grandchildren, Jason and Autumn; a step-daughter, Vera Morris, and her husband, Bill, of Joplin, Missouri; two step-sons, Roger Burkhart, and his wife, Marti, and Randall Burkhart, and his wife, Jessie, all of Neosho, Missouri; nine step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sarah Greer, of Bucklin, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Lebanon, Missouri, and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1951. He began working at Detroit Tool Company in Lebanon, and continued there for forty-eight years. He retired as a Vice-President of Engineering in October of 2000. He then moved to the Neosho, Missouri area for several years.
Roy was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and had attended Hayes Street Church of Christ in Lebanon, and the Burkhart Church of Christ in Racine, Missouri for the last several years. He had a deep, abiding faith in God.
In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, doing mechanic work, and spending time in his shop. He also liked taking care of his yard, playing Dominos, and eating ice cream. He was strong willed and determined, but loved his family dearly.
Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
