Richard Robert Sherman (Seymour)'s Obituary
Richard Robert Sherman was born at home in Prospect Park, New Jersey, on December 14, 1944, to Glenn Fulton and Elizabeth Trina (Plaatsman) Sherman. He departed this life Thursday morning, July 16, 2020, at his home in Fordland, Missouri, with his wife, Diana, at his side.
One of eight children, he was born and raised in New Jersey. His mother passed when Richard was in his late teens, and a few years later, in 1964, Glenn moved his children to Wisconsin. It was there that he met the love of his life, Diana Rose Heintz. They were married March 25, 1967, and to this union seven daughters and a son were born. Together, Richard and Diana have shared fifty-three happy and devoted years. By trade Richard was a tool and die machinist/welder and diesel mechanic. He worked at Peterbilt in Madison, Wisconsin, for many years. The Sherman family lived in Wisconsin until 1974, when they followed family to the Seymour, Missouri, area. They lived back and forth between the two states until making Seymour their permanent home in 1986. Richard and Diana have spent the last four years in Fordland. Richard worked in his trade at various shops in the West Plains, Mtn. Grove and Mansfield area, retiring from Davis Automotive in Ava, Missouri. Over the years, Richard genuinely enjoyed playing the guitar. He tinkered with wood-working and other small projects to keep himself busy. The Shermans attended Church of God Holiness in Ava and Fordland until Richard’s health would not permit. Richard was met in Heaven by his parents, his sister, Sharon Mueller, two sisters-in-law, Irene Williams and Sally Stewart, and two brothers-in-law, Bill Sokolnik and Arthur Heintz. He leaves behind his loving wife, Diana, of the home; their daughters, Dawn Sherman, of Sparta, MO, Melody Stevenson, of Mtn. Home, AR, Tracey and Cecil Hylton, of Odessa, MO, Becky Sherman, of West Plains, MO, Debbie Sherman, of Ozark, MO, Kim Summers, of Salem, OR, Brenda Sherman, and son, Matt Sherman – both of Fordland; eleven grandchildren, Raine, Katelyn, Christina, Amanda, Dylan, Austin, Brianna, Kayla, Haley, Gunner, and Tate; five great-grandchildren, Corbin, Landon, Skylar, Khloe, and Finley; six siblings, Glenna Sokolnik, of Seymour, Glenn Sherman, of Springfield, MO, James and Lisa Sherman, of Florida, Anne Amrick, of Wisconsin, Marie Sherman, and Ed and Linda Williams – all of South Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Larry Heintz, Lester Heintz and Harley and Cheryl Heintz, and two sisters-in-law, Agnes and Al Wili and Susan Shaw; many, many nieces and nephews, extended family, dear friends and neighbors. Richard Sherman was a devoted husband and father, a fun-loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and a caring brother and loyal friend. Family will treasure the memories made with him and find peace in knowing he is healthy and safe with The Lord.
