Ricky Dean Weatherd (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Ricky Dean Weatherd, "Lil Rick,” was born on February 23, 1949 in King City, MO to Elmo and Maxine Weatherd. He grew up in Darlington, MO where he attended Albany School until he was drafted into the United States Army in June of 1968. He was sent to Vietnam in November of 1969 where he drove a tank as a Calvary Scout. Rick left the Army in 1970 to return to Kansas City. Rick was married to his first wife Reva Weatherd on November 15th, 1968 to May of 1977. Rick and Reva had two children, Dena and Danon Weatherd.
Upon his return to Kansas City Rick worked at Ford Motor Plant from February 1970 till 1977. Rick would eventually become self-employed, involved in his passion of herbology for the remainder of his life. He lived in South Kansas City for many years until he and his girlfriend Gail Main decided to relocate to Windyville, MO in 1989. They had met in 1982 and they spent many happy years together traveling the country until they settled down to build their dream house in Long Lane, MO. His beloved girlfriend unexpectedly passed in 2005. Ricky lived with his girlfriend Cindy Prigden until his death.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elmo and Maxine Weatherd. He is survived by one brother, Terry Weatherd & wife Joan of St. Joseph MO; sister, Sue Snow of Harrison AR; children, Dena Weatherd and partner Steve Bosley of Birmingham, MO; Master Sergeant Danon Weatherd & wife Rachel of Fort Bragg, NC; grandchildren, Ashley Fletcher & husband Chris of Buffalo, MO, Makenzee Moore & husband Brant of Eagle River, AK; Lake Hendrickson & wife Lauren of Anchorage, AK; and five great-grandchildren, Lucas and Liam Fletcher, Lennox and Lawton Hendrickson, and Henry Moore. He also leaves many nieces and nephews along with a long list of great friendships aka “his brothers”.
Rick lived his life to the fullest and did whatever made him happy. He had the biggest smile and tightest hugs. Rick was always the one everyone could count on, and he would go above and beyond to make sure everyone was cared for. He loved his kids, his grand kids, and his great grandkids more than anything else in the world. He will be missed by many and never forgotten by the ones who knew him.
Memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023 in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home. Military Honors will follow the visitation.
