Robert Lee Blunk (Seymour)'s Obituary
Robert Lee Blunk of Grand Junction, Colorado, late of Seymour, Missouri, passed away quietly in his sleep on August 15, 2017, at the age of 93 years.
Bob was born in Mechanicsville, Iowa on November 10, 1923 and was raised in a home which included his parents, Walter Leroy Blunk and Emma Grace Blunk, 2 brothers and 1 sister. In 1941 he graduated from North High School in Denver.
In 1942, he was inducted into the US Army where he served in the 114th Signal Radio Intelligence Company attached to Omar Bradley’s 12th Army. He landed on Omaha Beach on June 9, 1944 and, six months later, was present in Malmedy, Belgium adjacent to the Ardennes Forest on the opening day of the Battle of the Bulge.
Following his return to the US, he married Bonnie Marie Hubbs, December 17, 1949 in Delta, Colorado. He and Bonnie enjoyed their marriage of 66 years to the time of her death on April 30, 2016.
Bob worked for the telephone company for 37 years, retiring in 1978. He spent the following 10 years working for the US Forest Service on the Grand Mesa in Western Colorado. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and most of all, being with his kids and grandkids.
He was a long time member of the Telephone Company Pioneers and remained in contact with those of his co-workers whose early work established dial-up telephone service throughout Western Colorado.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Leroy Blunk and Emma Grace Blunk, his wife Bonnie Marie Blunk and a granddaughter Jolene Lorine Blunk.
He is survived by a son, Gary Blunk and wife Paula of Seymour, Missouri; a daughter Sharon Mitchell of Lakewood, Colorado; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; his 2 brothers Elwood Dean Blunk and Wayne Forest Blunk and a sister Shirley E. Rockwell; a brother-in-law Jim Hubbs; a son-in-law Lee Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
