Robert "Bob" Nichols' Obituary
Robert Eugene “Bob” Nichols, son of Harry and Hulda Nichols, was born September 15, 1927 in Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-two years. On July 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Louise Kleier and they shared almost sixty wonderful years together. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, a sister Charlene, a brother Hal, and sister-in-law, Laverne. He is survived by his wife Louise, daughter Linda Hunter and husband Jim of Butler, Missouri; two grandsons, Andy of Columbia, Missouri, and Rob of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Fred Cook; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Bob was raised in Seymour, where he lived nearly all his life. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1945. He was drafted into the United States Army that same year, serving until 1947. He then attended Missouri State Teacher’s College and Draughn’s Business College. He became a proud father with the birth of Linda in 1951. Bob also helped with his dad’s Ford dealership. He became Postmaster in Seymour in 1953, serving in that position until he retired in 1982. Bob was a long-time member of the Seymour First Christian Church, having served in numerous leadership capacities in the church. After retiring, Bob helped his dad and brother in the cattle business. An avid outdoorsman, Bob loved hunting turkey, pheasant and quail, fishing, and arrowhead hunting. He enjoyed playing cards and also traveling the country with family and friends. Bob was well-known for his sense of humor, telling jokes and stories with EVERYONE he knew. All the children will remember him for his knack of finding candy behind their ear. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and thoughtful friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but will never be forgotten.
Services are 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Holman-Howe Chapel in Seymour, with burial and full military honors in Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday in Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seymour First Christian Church in care of the funeral home at P.O.
