Robert Ivor Burd, son of Guy M. and Leoline Cansler Burd, was born December 22, 1920, near Long Lane, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, November 25, 2013, in the Missouri Veterans Home, in Cameron, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, and eleven months.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Vernon Burd; and two sisters, Shelah Wanda Triplett, and Dwaunza Burd.
Robert is survived by a son, Stanley Burd, and his wife, Doris, of Kansas City, Missouri; a grandchild, David Burd, of Royal Oak, Michigan; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Cody Rice; a brother, Dennis Burd, and his wife, Darlene, of Alba, Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Long Lane, Missouri area and graduated from Phillipsburg High School. After graduation, he worked as a truck driver making deliveries between Lebanon and St. Louis. He then served his country faithfully in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1945, and was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific for part of that time. For most of his adult years, he made his home in the Kansas City area and worked as a meat cutter for many years. During his retirement years, he lived in San Diego, California.
Robert was a member of the Church of Christ and followed that faith throughout his life.
He was also a member of the Meat Cutter’s Union. He greatly enjoyed fishing and particularly fly fishing, and loved to travel, having made many trips across the country in his motor home. He also liked camping and boating at area lakes during the summer months.
Robert was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
